  • About Alana Iturralde

Alana Iturralde León (Chicago, 1988) has a (BFA) in sculpture at the School of Fine Arts, San Juan, Puerto Rico from 2007 to 2011. She was a fellow of the Practice, Beta-Local, San Juan, Puerto Rico 2011-2012 and attended the Summer School Capacete, Rio Janeiro, Brazil 2011.

Lives in Puerto Rico and works in an interdisciplinary way with sculpture, drawing and photography. Interested in opening a conversation about life from a personal stance. Submerged within different artesanal processes as a way of thinking. In her recent projects she is working with textiles, dyes, woven fabric and natural coal. In some of her central work you may find a participatory sculpture, made with wood and nylon belts, titled Escultura Utópica, knot work with blue dyed rope type of kipu inspired by a map of genealogical origin, On carnivorous plants and a black an orange embroidery of a turmeric root, crosses. Exploring in this manner her own tools of knowledge.

“I try to place my self in a space… before form and after language.”
