Next Saturday September 17th at 12 am within the framework of the upcoming exhibition ‘Un martillo en la cabeza‘ [A hammer in the head], the artist Damaris Pan and the art critic Ángel Calvo Ulloa will provide a conversation in which various topics will be addressed in relation to the Basque artist’s conception of the act of creation and what drives her to create.

The perfect opportunity to know in depth this exhibition which is part of the programming of the new  edition of the Barcelona Gallery Weekend 2022.

Damaris Pan (Mallabia, 1983), lives and carries out her artistic practice in Bilbao. Her artworks are not subject to specific themes but seek to respond to the demands of the work’s material evolution from its own singularity, so that her paintings become a catalyst for questions that challenge her about art and life.

Among her most recent exhibitions is worth men­tioning the solo shows ‘Veri Pery’ at Halfhouse (Barcelona, 2022), and ‘Cuernos a la Vista’ at BilbaoArte (2020), the duo Sugaar with Fiona Mackay at the Cibrián gallery (Donostia, 2021),and the group show ‘Turno de Réplica’ at the Patio Herreriano Museum (Valladolid, 2021).She has participated in various residencies such as Kunsthochschule Weissensee Berlin (2005), Art OMI in New York (2018) and Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, China (2019). In 2021 she also has recently been awarded the Gure Artea 2021 Prize and the Eremuak APA Ar­tistic Practice Grant.

Ángel Calvo Ulloa (Lalín, 1984) works as art critic and curator. He Graduated in Art History by the University of Santiago de Compostela and completed the Master in Contemporany Art: Creation and research by the University of Vigo.

He has curated projects such as Complexo Colosso (Centro Internacional das Artes José de Guimarães – CIAJG, 2021) and Habitación. Archivo F.X. (CA2M, Madrid; MNAC, Barcelona; and La Nau,Valencia, 2018-2019). He has also carry out some projects for other institutions such as ARTIUM (Vitoria-Gasteiz), MARCO (Vigo), CCEMX (Ciudad de México), La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Caixaforum (Barcelona), Tabacalera (Madrid) o EACC (Castellón) entre otras. He has published, together with Juan Canela, the book Desde lo curatorial. Conversaciones, experiencias y afectos (Consonni, 2020). Currently he is working on Anidar en el gesto. Unas estanterías de Alberto, para la Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia.
