Overview

Xavier Miserachs (Barcelona, 1937-1998) was the youngest of a collective that at the end of the 1950s returned to creativity and innovation for applied photography, whose trail had been lost after the Civil War. It carried out a break in the key of modernity overcoming the narrowness of Franco’s censorship as well as the precariousness of the autarky. He abandoned his medical studies when he discovered his vocation as a reporter and took up photography professionally with the creativity and passion of a pioneer. Due to his sensitivity towards the human, his sense of humor and his intelligence, his reports have the force of critical essays close to the autobiography, so that his work constitutes a semblance of the second half of the twentieth century, as well as the living and fresh portrait from his attitude to life.

This exhibition shows a journey through the time that he lived through his style, his intimate interests, the reports and portraits linked to the history of the second half of the 20th century, the different genres and applications of photography, the techniques and above all the evolution of a committed and reflective look, always in complicity with the public, rather than with the matter. A selection of images from his huge archive, taken into account for the first time in a total way: from amateur photos to professional ones, from black and white to color and from experimentation to commissioned work, to complete those topics that prematurely have made this young author a classic.
